Meaning of Jett
Jett is an English name, a variant spelling of Jet. It comes from the word jet, the black gemstone behind the term jet-black, and is also associated with jet aircraft. It is pronounced like the word jet (/dʒɛt/).
In fiction, Jett Rink is the ranch hand turned oil tycoon in Edna Ferber's novel Giant, played by James Dean in the 1956 film version. Well-known bearers today include Australian motocross racer Jett Lawrence, a multiple AMA champion, and Canadian actor Jett Klyne of WandaVision.
In the United States, Jett was rare for most of the 20th century and first entered the top 1,000 boys' names in 1999, at No. 796. It rose through the 2000s and 2010s and peaked at 161st in 2024. In 2025 it slipped to 169th, with 2,167 boys given the name.
