Ulf
Meaning of Ulf
The name Ulf, pronounced "oolf" (/ʊlf/) in both Swedish and German, is of Old Norse origin, meaning "wolf." This strong and succinct name carries connotations of the cunning and courageous characteristics traditionally attributed to wolves in Norse mythology. Ulf is a unique choice that has seen sporadic use outside of Scandinavia, evidenced by its occasional appearances in U.S. baby name data, such as in 1965 when it was given to five newborns. A variant of the name is Ulfr, which also ties back to its Nordic roots. Ideal for parents seeking a name with a rich historical background and a robust animalistic association, Ulf may appeal to those looking for something traditional yet distinct.
