Meaning of Chloe
Chloe comes from the Greek word for a young green shoot or sprout, and by extension something blooming or newly verdant. It was used in antiquity as a title of the goddess Demeter, and it appears in the New Testament: in 1 Corinthians, members of the household of Chloe report a dispute to Paul. Name dictionaries agree on this Greek origin and meaning.
The French pronunciation is KLOH-ay; in American English the name is KLOH-ee.
Beyond its classical and biblical roots, the name is familiar today through well-known bearers such as the snowboarder Chloe Kim, a two-time Olympic gold medalist. The spelling Khloe, used by some families, is a common variant.
