The name was common among early Christians and was borne by several saints and three popes. Its most famous bearer is the French writer Victor Hugo, author of Les Misérables and The Hunchback of Notre-Dame. It is also the name of Victor Frankenstein, the scientist in Mary Shelley's novel Frankenstein.
