Zoey is a spelling variant of Zoe, which comes from the Greek word zōē, meaning "life." Name dictionaries agree on this origin. Early Christians used the name, and more than one saint named Zoe is venerated in the church. The Zoey form is a modern English phonetic spelling, one of a few in common use alongside Zoe and Zoie.
